The renewable energy grades are in.

On May 29, as schools around the country let out for the summer, our national network highlighted the campuses that are farthest along on the path to 100 percent renewable energy. Receiving top marks were Middlebury College, Brown University, Vanderbilt University and the University of California system for committing to get 100 percent of their energy from clean, renewable sources. Barnard College also got high grades for divesting from dirty energy, and UMass Amherst earned honors for passing a student referendum in support of campus-wide renewable energy.

“From California to Tennessee, it’s been a great year for campus renewable energy,” said Bronte Payne, director of our national network’s 100% Renewable Campuses campaign.

Bronte, and our network partners CALPIRG Students and Environment America Research & Policy Center, were instrumental in convincing the UC system to go renewable, and are working to persuade 50 more campuses to join the movement by 2050.
