Americans will consume less oil, create less smog and cut our global warming emissions, thanks to Clean Cars rules we helped implement in 14 states. Those state victories paved the way for President Obama to announce new nationwide clean car standards in 2011, which amount to the single biggest step this country has taken to end our addiction to oil and tackle global warming.

Promoting Offshore Wind

North Carolina has incredible potential for offshore wind—more than any other state along the Atlantic Coast.  Fortunately, the Obama Administration has recently begun moving forward to lease appropriate land off the state’s shores for wind power, and even has the backing of Gov. Pat McCrory.  We’ve recruited and mobilized thousands of Tar Heels to support these steps.

Building greener in North Carolina.

New homes and businesses will use up to onethird less energy under new standards approved by a state council and adopted by the General Assembly — a decision based in part on our research and advocacy. The strengthened standards will deliver savings for owners and reduce pollution in the air we breathe.

Result

100,000 strong for clean water.

After thousands of members of Environment North Carolina and our national federation, Environment America, urged the EPA to act, EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson announced a plan to restore Clean Water Act protections to all of America's rivers, lakes, streams and wetlands. We’ve since delivered more than 100,000 public comments in support of clean water protections.
